Carcassonne, France

Carcassonne was like something out of a movie. In fact, many movies have been filmed here including Kevin’s Costner’s Robin Hood.
The morning was wet with low lying cloud but it just added to the atmosphere.
The citizens of Carcassone celebrated their bimillennium in June 1928. As with any city or area with a such a long history, Carcassonne has served many purposes including military, trade and religion. The city has also experienced much destruction and reconstruction. Most of the castle and walls were started about 800-1000 years ago.
I do apologise but I am too tired to write more about the history – there will be plenty online if anyone is interested in pursuing it. Otherwise, Belinda might have something on her blog (just click on her name on the right hand side for her blog).

The tower used in Robin Hood...

Belinda and Matt (and some other guy who really wanted to be in the photo) peeped over the wall.
