The Chateau in Blois is a fantastic example of at least 3 distinct periods of building. The history of the site dates to before Roman times. It was the home of Adele of Normandy, daughter of William the Conqueror, in the late 11th century and became the capital of the kingdom in 1500s. It was the birthplace of King Francois I, builder of the Chateau at Chambord. Later periods are associated with a darker history. In the 1600s, Henri IV and Marie De Medicis, the then residents, presided over a period of political intrigue and assassination of close family and members of the court. The chapel here was creepy.
You wouldn't want to wake up in these rooms with a hang-over!
